In an unprecedented month-long residency at BAM, Paul Simon collaborates with an extraordinary range of artists to offer three musical constellations from the career of one of America's greatest songwriters.

In Under African Skies, Simon rekindles a love affair with the sounds of South Africa and Brazil which began with his masterpieces Graceland and The Rhythm of the Saints. Finally, Simon revisits the quiet railway stations, urban rhythms, and immigrant dreams of his greatest American Tunes.

So...lets get a group together and make a movie at Michel Gondry's interactive art show. When is good for ppl? We get to make awesome movies!!!!! All creative types are needed because our movie will be the most badass ever. I'm thinking we need creatives (both on and off camera), production type folks, and anyone who can contribute awesomnity. Comment if you want in on the best extravaganza to ever happen and let me know when is good for you so I can figure out when we'll trek over and make history.

The art show is in conjunction with his mooovie opening which also looks AWESOME.

Here's the trailer:

Here's the info:

February 16, 2008 — March 22, 2008
18 Wooster Street, New York

Be Kind Rewind, an exhibition of new work by Michel Gondry, opens at Deitch Projects on February 16, 2008, shortly before his identically titled film is released in theaters.

Be Kind Rewind is a film about two childhood friends living in Pasaic, New Jersey, trying to make ends meet. After one of the characters accidentally gets his brain magnetized by trying to sabotage a local power plant, he visits the video store his friend is taking care of while the owner is away and unknowingly erases all of the video tapes in the store's inventory. The characters decide to make their own homemade versions of popular films in a junkyard behind the store. These new "sweded" films—recreations using commonly available, everyday materials—prove more popular with the customers than the originals, making the two friends local celebrities.

Pardon the lack of formatting but this is amazing...an e-mail forward from my dad.

I'm determined to have something every day "make my day". Today it was this awesome e-mail.

This is really funny ............

A 1st grade school teacher had twenty-six students in her class. She presented each child in her classroom the 1st half of a well-known proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb. It's hard to believe these were actually done by first graders. Their insight may surprise you. While reading, keep in mind that these are first-graders, 6-year-olds, because the last one is a classic!

I think i am going to see this on Thursday at the UCB theater. Anyone wanna come with? Its only 5 bucks and will be so funny and amazing. As an added bonus you can always yell SHUT UP I HATE YOU!

Here's the website:
http://www.ucbtheatre.com/schedule/showdetails.php?showid=1364

Here's the blurb about the show:

Four incredibly opinionated comedians join hosts Anthony King & Scott Brown for a brutal and hilarious round table discussion about all the things they hate. It's like watching The McLaughlin Group, Best Week Ever, and a knife fight all at the same time.

Hosted by Scott Brown & Anthony King (GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL!)

January's panel features:
Rob Riggle (The Daily Show w/Jon Stewart)
John Oliver (The Daily Show w/Jon Stewart)
Jason Mantzoukas (Mother, We Used To Go Out)
Jackie Clarke (Death By Roo Roo, Obsessed!)

Ugh. I hate being sick. And I haven't shaken this strange cold/cough/fever thing for like six weeks. I did, however, finally go to the doctor today. The "doc farm" as I affectionately call it. While I am SO thankful I found a reliable place in New York where I can get a same day appointment when I'm sick (thats even relatively on time), I hate the assembly line aspect. The internist who saw me was cold, did not discuss much, and spent all of 4 minutes with me. Churn them through I suppose. Sometimes I wish I didn't need to go to said doctor when I KNOW all I need is a ZPack (a quick 5 day round of antibiotics). If it wasn't for my fear of doctors in general and my hate for the doc farm as well as the upper east side (ok...65th and 2nd ave) I would have gone a long time ago and would have been able to actually experience much more of my life over the past month instead of sleeping and trying to work a losing battle at not being sick. Like so much so that I spend my weekends in bed, truly unable to do much else than watch movies (a trip to costco on saturday left me exhausted and feverish. I had to take a 4 hour nap and a shower.)

I am so excited to be a "normal" person again!

Also, I found a chiropractor thats covered under my insurance. Yippeeee!

Wow. Maureen Dowd said it much much better than I just did

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/09/opinion/08dowd.html?em&ex=1200027600&en=cf6254796c09c0cf&ei=5087%0A

(column is titled "Can Hillary Cry Her Way Back to the White House")

And of course...she summed it up with class with a reference to a Spencer Tracy/Katherine Hepburn movie

(a quote from the column)
"As Spencer Tracy said to Katharine Hepburn in “Adam’s Rib,” “Here we go again, the old juice. Guaranteed heart melter. A few female tears, stronger than any acid.”"

I know some hate her...but I really do like the cougar that is Maureen Dowd.

Food question

So...I NEED a new breakfast food to eat at work. I've been eating 1/2 cup oatmeal with splenda every day for six months and i think i will vomit if i eat it again. For the 9-5 coffee clutchers, what do you eat at work for breakfast? I'm looking for something healthy that keeps me going and is easy to prepare. I'm thinking of maybe starting to have salads for breakfast too? No. More. Oatmeal.

Oh, and at work I have access to a microwave, refrigerator, freezer, and hot water. No oven or stovetop.

My crazy boyfriend is the cooooolest. He gave me an AMAZING early birthday present last night.

Behold the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 D AF Lens in all its awesomnity!

My birthday isn't until Monday (the big 25!) so save your dino e-cards until then. But, I am taking a photo class on Sunday and Will thought I could use this beauty for it. And it was a COMPLETE surprise. He looked at the kind of work I like to do (a lot of low light no flash shooting with some close up work) and did the research. The reason this lens is SO COOL is that it is super fast, has a verrrrry narrow depth of field (meaning the surface area that is in sharp focus) so lots of coooool shots, and is super compact. And its a fixed lens which is how I learned to shoot on film.

If I weren't so gimpy I'd run around after work and play with it outside. But I suppose I may have to do some late life andre kertesz instead (he was bound to a wheelchair later in life and took AMAZING photos from his window all day)...

So...I booked some people for work at the Hyatt Place in Medford (Somerville area). The closest T stops are the Davis Square Red line and the Wellington Station Orange line.

Questions:
- Where are good places to get breakfast/coffee in the area
- What are the good restaurants in the Davis square area
- What are your favorite Boston restaurants for folks on expense accounts (but, ya know OshKosh expense accounts not Hedge Fund expense accounts)
- (Aimed squarely at [info]redheadedmuse and any others who know about kids clothes shopping in the boston area)...What are the cool places to shop for kids clothes...like botiques, indie designers, nifty vintage stores, etc.
- What are the good places to get adult clothes in the same "inspirational sample" vein?

I want to put together a list for these folks...
